Rumour has it that Game Devs are celebrating the ejecting of Geralt from the game-franchise as CD-Project Red seeks to replace him with his surrogate daughter Ciri.
Geralt if people recall is the lead of the popular Witcher book series by Polish writer Sapkowski, who drew a lot of inspiration from the 70s Fantasy character Elric. It was him who also granted to CDPR the rights to his popular character, with the video-game studio doing a great deal to transform Geralt from a regular book-hero of a popular book series in Poland into a global phenomenon.
Honestly, without CDPR it is doubtful that the series would have even been made or the books translated into as many languages as they have been, or sold as well as they have.
The trouble is that Geralt has become something of a gaming-character icon, so to replace him is akin to replacing a character like Conan with his illegitimate daughter, or replacing Aragorn with Eowyn.
It seems insane to replace him, but you know crazy is as crazy does. That said, one can only hope that the rumours are false.
It is strongly possible that they are, and that this is simply some journalists and game-devs getting over-excited for what they’d like to see happen.

Brothers Krynn:
I suppose that there's no dealing with dumb. While Ciri was a big part of Witcher III: Wild Hunt, she wasn't the main character. Replacing him with her will take away a lot of the fun. She doesn't require his extensive mana collection or potion collection, and the only thing she's got going for her is her speed.
Part of the Wild Hunt game was Geralt romancing Yenifer and the other women from his past.
Maybe they are trying to alienate men from gaming. They do seem to be attempting to drive men out of every thing they enjoy.
