While some of us are still processing the cancellation of the live-action Dragonlance series, there is a faint glimmer of hope for the world of Krynn. The recent completion of the Dragonlance Destinies trilogy from Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman hasleft fans hungry for more. Well, fear not fans, more is to come from the dynamic writing duo, because it was recently announced that a new trilogy will arrive starting in 2026. It has been announced as the Dragonlance Legacies trilogy on Margaret Weis’ Facebook page:
“Tracy and I are pleased to announce Dragonlance Legacies. The story of the legendary wizard, Magius, and his friendship and adventures with the Solamic knight, Huma. Published by Random House Worlds. 2026.”
While Tracy Hickman on Facebook announced:
“Margaret Weis and I will be writing a new trilogy: Dragonlance Legacies. First book: War Wizard.”
This news has fans salivating with the choice of the protagonists. The Solmanic Knight Huma Dragonbane and his companion the Wizard Magius were subjects of the third Dragon War. Huma was a hero for defeating the goddess Takhisis, which was the subject of Richard A. Knaak’s classic Dragonlance novel The Legend of Huma. My hope is that a re-printing of Richard A. Knaak’s Dragonlance novels will happen prior to the release of book one of the new trilogy. It would be neat too if Richard A. Knaak came back to write more Dragonlance novels as a result and bring back Kaz the Minotaur.
Here’s hoping.
I can be found at my substack, Hylandian.
Given how they ruined the OG Trilogy and Legend of Huma with their reboot, they're only going to keep ruining Dragonlance. This is saddening news though it does mean they're out of the running as competition within the genre.
I've only read the first book from 1986 (?)
